You know, it’s great that Obama has held a consistently sensible attitude towards hip-hop culture, but it saddens me that he has distance himself from hip-hop in order not to scare away the support of older, whiter generations.
Props to Jay-Z, P Diddy, Russell Simmons, Kevin Lilles, and Mary J Blige:
Forget the cha-cha slide, this is the next line dance:

No matter who wins (well, except that it rather does), Obama has already done a world of good in inspiring new communities and demographics to vote – Read more here.
Harvard’s student newspaper’s endorsement, very informative, and well worth a read.
This doesn’t really have anything to do with the election, but it’s kind of related (and slightly horrifying), since getting poor nations to catch up in technology is an important issue that the next president will have face in light of rising technological inequality exacerbating already existing poverty conditions – Microsoft Battles Low-Cost Rival for Africa (WSJ).
In this blog, we’ve noted a number of parallels between rappers & politicians. So it’s inevitable that, in light of the recent Palin debacle featuring the RNC picking up 150k in Saks/Neiman bills for shawty, I am reminded of TI’s single “Whatever You Like” off his October album Paper Trail, with lyrics that eerily mirror Palin’s situation:
TI drops high praise for his girl: “Shawty you da hottest, love the way you drop it/Brain so good (good), swore you went to college.”
And rewards her as such: “Ya ain’t gotta downgrade you can get what I get/My chick could have what she want/And go in any store for any bag she want.”
Seriously now, after listening to the song a couple times, who can blame Palin for accepting a few new threads? Only half-witted haters, I guess.
This is awesome: “Before long, the third annual show was shaping up to be as much of a Barack Obama rally as an awards ceremony.” More on the BET Awards here.
What an amazing, inspirational endorsement. Kudos to you, Mr. Powell.
