The 2010 HLS Yearbook is in production—don’t be left out!

There are four ways to get involved:

1.  Get Photographed!
Mark your calendars—photographers will be on campus on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the Hark main lobby.  Drop by for a sitting in your snazziest business attire. You need not purchase a picture package in order to get your picture in the yearbook, but you DO need to sit for a portrait!

2.  Buy your book!
The yearbook will be full of photos and memories of your time at HLS! It includes portraits of faculty and students, and covers organizations, campus events, Class Day, and Commencement. You can buy your book on line with a credit card, or visit the Journals Office in Hastings to pay with cash or check.  The 2010 yearbook is $75 which includes shipping to anywhere you’ll be this summer/next fall.  Note: books will be shipped to you over the summer, not mailed to HLS as the Jostens website says–please disregard this message when you’re ordering! You can also purchase both the 2009 yearbook and the 2010 yearbook for $100—this offer is only available through the Journals Office in Hastings.

3.  Upload Photos!
Include YOUR memories of YOUR friends in the HLS yearbook by uploading photographs.  The username is 400008007 and the password is hls (lower-case).  This is a great way to upload group photos of organizations, clubs, and journals.

4. Submit a Congratulatory Ad!
Congratulatory ads are a fun way to say thank you to your section, organization, faculty, or friends, or for your friends and family to memorialize your time at HLS and to say WAY TO GO!  Click here for more information on creating a congratulatory ad for this year’s yearbook.

SPIN Seeks Applicants for New Board Positions

Looking ahead to the 2010-2011 school year, the Student Public Interest Network (SPIN) is excited to announce its launch and seeks six dedicated students to carry out its three major philanthropic programs: L-STAR, One Day’s Work and the new Post-Graduate Student-Funded Fellowship.  Going forward, SPIN will devote its efforts to these three programs, which rely on the involvement of students working in both the public and private sectors.

The Post-Graduate Student-Funded Fellowship is a newly launched fellowship that aims to support the public interest work of HLS graduates with funds raised entirely from donations by students, and in the process, to foster a greater sense of community and philanthropy on campus.  3Ls can choose to donate through the Class Gift, while all classes can participate through fund-raising events held on campus, ranging from bake sales to section competitions and through One Day’s Work.  Given the brand new nature of this program, Board members would have lots of room to bring their own creativity and ideas to ensure its success in future years.

L-STAR (Law Student Travel and Accommodations Reimbursement Program) is a national fund-raising initiative that runs in conjunction with law school on-campus interviewing programs. If a law student stays with family or friends instead of in a hotel during a callback interview, the interviewing law firm(s) agrees to donate the funds saved to SPIF or other HLS public interest funding organizations.  Running the L-STAR program involves a relatively small time commitment with major returns in terms of supporting HLS student public interest work.

One Day’s Work seeks to promote a culture of giving by increasing charitable contributions among young professionals. HLS students as well as our peers at other schools across the country are asked to commit to donating the equivalent of One Day’s Work to a charitable cause that interests them, including, but not limited to, the student public interest funding on campus.  The program makes every effort to assure the dependability and fiscal responsibility of all the charities with which it associates so that the money is efficiently and effectively employed.

We are planning to elect two chairs to run each program.  Interested applicants should send a resume and statement of interest to Alison Welcher at  awelcher at by March 1, 2010.
