One thing I’ve noticed having traveled in legal marketing circles for several years is that lawyers LOVE to know the answer to this question: “What are other firms doing?” So to help answer that burning inquiry, I am posting this quick article pointer to:

As firms cut marketing, others see opportunity

In the article Sloan states that while some firms will be cutting marketing department budgets, other firms “plan to maintain or increase the amount they spend on marketing in 2009 in an attempt to add clients and bolster their brand while their competitors pull back.”

  1. You have really hit the nail on the head here. Our company mainly deals with law firms in London, which is an extremely competitive city. While our clients definitely want to keep up with what their competitors are doing, they also don’t want to spend vast amounts of money or undertake any big marketing projects. Most are currently budgeting for next year, and while search marketing services are still a must have, we have noticed that things like website redesign or upgrading have been placed on the back burner until the economy improves. It’s definitely a “wait and see” attitude for certain aspects of legal marketing.
