Thawing of the Charles

While biking to work yesterday morning, I heard an amazing sound – the ice on the Charles was cracking! I took a few pictures,
but there was no way to record the sound itself, especially with all
the traffic noise. After such a cold winter, the ice is incredibly
think — earlier in the month I even saw kids playing hockey in on the
River in Watertown — so its cracking is a fascinating phenomenon.

It’s good to know that spring is on its way.

Coming home tonight, under that same BU bridge, the mysterious train
to MIT rumbled overhead. The sound was awe-inspiring: I could feel the weight of the vehicle as it rolled by on to its unknown purpose.
