Hybrid taxis for a better Cambridge

PlanetTran strikes me as the kind of company those of us who care
about social and environmental issues should be supporting, and heck,
founding. Why take a gas-guzzling Lincoln when you can ride a hybrid —
especially when a hybrid “idling” at the taxi stand automatically shuts
off?

Mission-driven entrepreneurship — I love these kinds of companies. Can capitalism have a soul? I sure hope so.

Anyway, I’ve already signed the petition for the Cambridge License Commission to grant PlanetTran five new taxi medallions.

We’ll try to book this service to get to Logan on Friday morning
(leaving town for Rachel’s family reunion) and will post our experience
if we succeed.

  1. We booked our reservation on line last night. There was no price listed for the trip from Cambridge to Boston Logan Airport. So we booked, price unseen. After emailing the company, I learned that the trip will cost $34. The return trip from the airport is the same + tolls.

This is about $10 more expensive than a traditional cab.
