Recently, whenever I’ve tried to talk about the Democratic candidate
for President, I’ve forgotten his name. Putting aside my general
inability to recall names, this is a Bad Thing. David Brooks writes succinctly about Kerry’s lack of passion, or conviction, or anything:
Most people take a certain pride in their own opinions. They feel
attached to them as part of who they are. But Kerry can be coldly
detached from his views, willing to use, flip or hide them depending on
the exigencies of the moment.
I know that the DNC banked on turning 2004 into a Presidential
recall rather than a race between two candidates and thus propelled the
most innocuous candidate they could find. If that strategy fails, I
will be very pleased to see McAuliffe and henchman on the
chopping-block. Meanwhile, we’re still missing a message and reason to
vote Democrat in November.
