I’ve been trying to educate my daughter on the finer points of English grammar, but haven’t had much luck with it.
Me: I notice you have several geese on your farm.
Her: Those are gooses.
Me: Ummmm, sweetie, this is a situation where things are different than you would think. You can have one goose, but you must have many geese.
Her: Oh. Well…. OK! (big smile) But….. I don’t have any geese on my farm. (Very serious again)
Me: You don’t?
Her: No. I have gooses. (Goes on playing)
Huh? How did she wriggle out of that one? Thank goodness she’s starting school next year and her teachers can wrestle with her.
