Welcome to I & D

Welcome to I & D, the official blog of the newly launched Internet and Democracy Project, an initiative of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School (see press release here).  The goal of the project is to “to support the rights of citizens to access, develop and share independent sources of information, to advocate responsibly, to strengthen online networks, and to debate ideas freely with both civil society and government.”

This blog is home, not only for the Internet and Democracy Project, but also to a wide-ranging discourse between technologists and civil society practitioners around the world who are increasingly experimenting with ways to use the Internet as a tool to help improve their communities.  Threads in this conversation range from understanding the myriad ways that the Internet changes the nature of civic engagement to identifying promising technological innovations to engaging practitioners in a constructive conversation about what tools are needed.  We hope you will join as we explore the relationship between Internet and Democracy.
