  • Holmes Wilson of Participatory Culture Foundation
    • From Holmes: “Holmes Wilson is one of the founders of Participatory Culture Foundation, which is making open source tools for online video distribution. Topics for discussion include: PCF’s platform for video distribution, online video communities, and the relationship between underlying infrastructure for internet video and certain desirable political or social outcomes.”

    • What are your goals with the blog/hopes for future development?

  • The Boston Weblogger Meetup
    • Remind j to bring the glasses someone left at the last Weblogger Meetup
  • We’re going to go to a 7:30 pm talk in the Ames Courtroom in Austin Hall about Restorative Justice in Jamaica featuring Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, a boxer who was wrongly imprisoned in the United States for many years. Denzel Washington brought attention to Carter’s story via the film The Hurricane. This talk may seem orthogonal to our group, but “Prof. Nesson wanted us to think about how we could use the Internet to communicate this message and involve people outside of the room at Harvard Law School where the talk will happen.” How can we use the Internet to help inmates, especially those wrongly imprisoned?

    • This week: Weblog Meetup Week, so we picked a dinner time & location in advance. 9pm, Cambridge Common – Actually likely to be 9:30 or possibly even a tad later since it’s 8:30 as I post this and Hurricane just started speaking (there was some excellent prelim stuff). If you’re headed straight to the food part of the evening, we will be there. CC has a lovely bar you can hang out at in the meantime….
    • UPDATE: 9:10 the event is now in q&a, so some of our crew have headed over to Cambridge Common, and the rest of us will join them soon.

    • Let’s recharge and get some exciting stuff on our schedule for Spring. We’ve had some fantastic ideas, but we need volunteers from the group to shepherd individual potential speakers, with Erica and j coordinating on dates. (We didn’t talk about our schedule last week because we had such a small turnout.)
    • Pick a restaurant for next week for the Boston Weblogger Meetup. They’ve asked us to select the restaurant ahead of time so they can publicize it within their group.
    • Dan Gillmor at Berkman’s lunch on Tuesday (1/17) at 12:30 pm
    • Bill Ives speaks to the Special Libraries Association Boston Chapter, Tuesday, January 31, 9 am

    Welcome back from the holidays and Happy New Year!

    • Remind us that we need to pick a restaurant next week for the Boston Weblogger Meetup that will coincide with our meeting the following week (3rd Thursday of the month). They’ve asked us to select the restaurant ahead of time so they can publicize it within their group.

    Maybe I don’t need to say this, but …

    Because of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 24, we will not meet.

    I’m definitely very thankful for the blog group and all of its participants. I’ve learned so much over the last 2 1/2+ years from being involved and met very many terrific people.
