2004/12/02 Proposed Agenda

1

The Berkman Center needs their conference room this week for an event, so we will not be able to meet where we usually do. Would anyone like to propose an alternate location? Dinner instead of a meeting? Comment below or discuss it on the list.

**Updated with the new date**: On Sunday, December 12, Critt is hosting a dinner gathering at his house for us. His family is serving ham and harvest vegetables. We are encouraged to bring food and beverages to contribute to the meal and a gag gift under $5 for a Yankee swap. Gathering begins at 4 pm. Dinner is at 6 pm. Need a ride? Want to publicize what you’re bringing? Comment below or post to the list.

Yes, family members, kids, significant others, friends with benefits, etc., are welcome, too.

Addendum 12/7: We need an accordion player, since “Nothing livens up a party like a suave, snappy dresser with an accordion!”

2004/11/25 Proposed Agenda

ø

Proposed agenda:

  • Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
  • Travel safely
  • Cook and eat wisely

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we will not meet. The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 2. There is a conflict with the space at the Berkman Center, so the group needs to meet elsewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? If so, blog, post to the discussion list, or comment below.

On Saturday, December 4, Critt is hosting a dinner gathering at his place. His family is serving ham and harvest vegetables. We are encouraged to bring food and beverages to contribute to the meal and a gag gift under $5 for a Yankee swap. We need to decide what time to gather and what time to eat. We’ll discuss this and getting to Critt’s on the list.

How to Change a Password on a Manila Blog

ø

Are you a member of this or another Manila blog? Do you want to change your password? A blogging friend showed me how to do this. Please note that neither of us tried this with a managing editor account. Theoretically, it should work, but it hasn’t been tested.

  1. Log in. (Forgot your password or need one? On the Log in screen  http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/[blogdirectory]/member/login), type your e-mail address in the top box, then click Login and it will e-mail a password to you.)
  2. Go to the Member Sign Up Formhttp://blogs.law.harvard.edu/[blogdirectory]/member/signUp
  3. Type in the e-mail address your account uses
  4. Type whatever you’d like as a password
  5. The blog will reset your password to the new password.
  6. You might receive a welcome message from the blog in your e-mail account.

Not a member? Want to join? Complete the Member Sign Up Form and you’re all set: http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/[blogdirectory]/member/signUp.

Why join? Well, mostly it’s a way for this blog to remember who you are, which makes commenting much easier. Also, if you’re a member, you can edit your comments on this blog.

2004/11/18 Proposed Agenda

ø

Proposed agenda:

  • No meeting on Nov. 25 because of Thanksgiving
  • Blogadin gathering on Saturday, December 4 in Hull (Yes, that’s really supposed to be Hull, it isn’t a typo.)
  • j says the panel on blogs and KM with Garrett, Kris, and Christina went very well. “We all really appreciate being able to make our presentations for the group and get feedback.”
  • A few attacks have happened in the area, including one on Everett Street, just around the corner. Please be safe.
  • Marc Canter on microcontent, calendaring, and stuff
  • What else?
  • Eat

    • Shimon requested we eat somewhere we haven’t eaten before. If he’s at the meeting, what about eating at: Iruna, Redline, the Greenhouse, Tanjore, Yenching, Bartley’s Burgers, or John Harvard’s Brew House? Okay, well, we’ve eaten at Iruna and John Harvard’s before, but like maybe a year or longer ago, perhaps before Shimon joined us.
    • Last week we didn’t meet
    • We were at Seoul Food the week before

Notes:

Like past and future agendas, if you have an item you’d like on the agenda, comment, get blogging privileges from Jay , or contact him or the other j.

Dim Sum, Chau Chow City, Sunday, Sun., 11/14, 11 am

1

Back by popular demand!

Join us for dim sum at Chau Chow City, 83 Essex Street in Chinatown, on Sunday, November 14th at 11:00 am. Friends, significant others, and family members are welcome, too.

If people who attended BloggerCon or any other recent tech conference(s) are present, perhaps we can persuade them to tell us about their travels.

South Station is the closest stop on the Red Line (and may be the closest subway stop). Chinatown is the closest stop on the Orange Line. There is a tiny parking lot very close to the restaurant that is not free. Street parking may be available a short walk away in the financial district. If you could let me know in advance if you plan to join us, that would be very helpful because when we get to the restaurant, we can put in a request for a table if we know how many are coming.

Dim sum is Chinese food that some people think is quite tasty. It’s often eaten for brunch. The Chau Chow City waitstaff roams the restaurant with carts filled with steamed foods, fried goodies, dumplings, soup, seafood, and assorted desserts. Customers select what to eat as the carts pass by. The food is often served in steamer containers with 2 or 3 items per container. Going with a group can work well because there’s more opportunity to share and try different items. It is possible to order from Chau Chow City’s menu.

We’re usually there for a while, so if you can’t join us right at 11 am, it’s okay to arrive a little bit later.

Addendum 11/14: Dim sum was as tasty as always. Seven Nine of us enjoyed gorging on sweets and talking about weblogs. The rumors about us force feeding the vegetarian duck webs is completely untrue. Two special guests joined us.

Channel 9 Guy and Dude or Dude and Guy at dim sum.
Channel 9 Dude and Guy (or is it Guy and Dude?) at dim sum

We knew we could get some rather exotic foods at dim sum. We were surprised by this delicacy. Nonetheless, the Dowbrigade eagerly digs in.

No Meeting on Nov. 11

We will not meet on Thursday, November 11, because of the Veterans Day holiday.

Some people might be gathering for dinner. Someone might post details, perhaps as a comment on this post, when plans are firm. Feel free to comment below to show interest in dinner.

There is buzz about doing dim sum on Sunday, November 14. Stay tuned for details.

Calendar for our Group

ø

At last night’s meeting, we discussed using a calendar to coordinate scheduling guest speakers and other activities for our group. Jay McCarthy enabled this feature for our Yahoo! Group. (Thanks, Jay!) It is open to members of the Yahoo! Group.

I already added our weekly meetings and the upcoming blogs and knowledge management presentation on Nov. 4 and Marc Canter’s session on Nov. 18.

As far as I can tell, however, the calendar doesn’t offer the feature to edit a repeating event on a particular date, like you can do with Yahoo!’s calendar for individuals. Right now there are additional notes on those Thursdays with speakers and the two upcoming Thursdays we won’t meet (Veterans Day (Nov. 11) and Thanksgiving (Nov. 25)). If how it displays in the calendar confuses you, let me know. If enough people find it horribly confusing, maybe I’ll try to find another way to list our meetings.

I chose not to enable e-mail reminders for our meetings. And, no, it doesn’t look like the calendar has a feed.

Calendar for our Group …
