Boston Weblogger Meetup Thursday / Meeting at Berkman

1

According to the meetup.com Web site, which requires registration, the Boston Weblogger Meetup will happen this Thursday (10/21) at 7 pm at some undisclosed location. The topic is calendaring.

Edit by Wendy 10/21 9:12 am: We will be holding a regular meeting at the Berkman Center at 7pm. We can do calendaring if the relevant people are able; if not, we will come up with an alternate agenda.

Addenda 10/20, 12 pm: The Meetup Web site still does not have the location of the meeting. If someone knows it, please comment below or send it to the blog group list.

4:30 pm: It is my understanding that the location for the Meetup is still undecided. I have proposed doing a regular Thursday meeting as an alternative. When someone knows what’s happening, details will appear here.

Proposed agenda:

  • Please note the new IRC channel: #berkmanbloggroup
  • Congratulate Wendy and Joey
  • j, Kris, Garrett, and Christina want to run through their panel on blogs and knowledge management on Nov. 4th. How’s that?
  • Marc Canter and microcontent
  • Shimon, Josh, Garrett, Kris, and j’s blog talk on October 30th.
  • What else?
  • Eat

    • Smile Thai
    • Last week: Pho Pasteur

Notes:

Like past and future agendas, if you have an item you’d like on the agenda, comment, get blogging privileges from Jay , or contact him or the other j.

Meeting for 10/7 Moved to Bombay Club

4

Due to a conflict in conference room reservations, the Thursday night meeting for October 7th will be held at the Bombay Club. The restaurant is located near the corner of JFK and Eliot Streets in Harvard Square. Commenting as RSVP would be lovely.

Please meet by 7:15 at the latest so we can get an appropriate-size table; I will leave a note on the door at Berkman for those who do not check this blog or read the Yahoogroup emails.

Hope to see you there.

2004/09/23 Proposed Agenda

ø

Proposed agenda:

  • Blog meetup
  • Josh and Shimon talk about interpersonal content management and Frassle
  • Taiwanese dim sum in Newton on Sunday, 9/26, Chung Shin Yuan, 183 California Street. They open at 11:30 am. Meet near the outdoor seating area by Au Bon Pain in Harvard Square at 10:45 am to go with some people over there or at the restaurant around 11:20 am. So far, the only car leaving from Harvard Square is a 2-door with two seats occupied. Three people can fit quite snugly in the back. If you need a ride from Harvard Square and/or you are going to dim sum, it would be /very nice/ if you could let j know. She will probably not be on e-mail after 9:30 am Sunday.
  • j sent the Harvard University Gazette Calendar a notice for our meetings for the listings.
  • Eat

    • Smile Thai
    • Cambridge Common week before

Manila Referer Error

ø

The other night, I encountered these errors when I tried to post some news items and update a tagline:

“Sorry! There was an error: Can’t evaluate the expression because the name “referer” hasn’t been defined. The error was detected by Frontier 9.0 in mainResponder.respond. Webmaster: weblogmaster@cyber … .”

and

[Macro error: Can’t evaluate the expression because the name “referer”
hasn’t been defined.].

I reported the errors to the weblogmaster and received a response indicating it might have been a problem with some of the software on the computer I was using. Details are linked above.

Change of Venue: We have a 7:15 pm reservation at the Bombay Club, 57 JFK Street in the Galleria in Harvard Square. People coming through or near Harvard Square are meeting at the restaurant. Another group is meeting at the Berkman Center at 7 pm.

If someone can get online, we might do IRC and notes–but notes only if someone says anything noteworthy.

Proposed agenda:

  • Josh’s notes
  • j’s live notes taken during the meeting

  • 2004/09/02 Proposed Agenda

    2

    Proposed agenda:

    • Freaking out that it’s September
    • Update on Lisa’s interest in getting political candidates blogging
      • (Note: the link goes to a Yahoo! Group message that may require a login.)
    • Calendars on blogs
    • Michael’s statement of purpose for the group
      • (The above link goes to a Yahoo! Group e-mail, which may be restricted to group members.)
    • Trackback: why does it work so well between Harvard’s server and some others, but doesn’t work at all in other situations?
    • Eat

      • Cambridge Common
      • ChangSho last week

    Notes:

The construction zone seems to be gone. It is now possible to walk through Harvard Law School Yard to get to the Berkman Center.

    2004/08/26 Proposed Agenda

    2

    Proposed agenda:

    • Recap of the blog meetup last week
    • Lisa’s interest in getting political candidates blogging
      • (Note: the link goes to a Yahoo! Group message that may require a login.)
    • Update on the blog server
      • Is it possible to get at least one of the server administrators to come to a future meeting?
        • (Note: the link goes to a Yahoo! Group message that may require a login.)
        • Wendy has a pretty decent update; if after that we still want a sysadmin to come, we can work on that
    • Harvard blogs’ aggregators should now be able to handle Atom feeds
    • Locking the managing editor out of the blog
    • Frassle
    • Luring Jay McCarthy back to the meetings
      • “I’ve heard he’s a vegan. Do you think if we tied a carrot to a stick, that would work?”
      • “He’s much too smart to fall for something that silly. Think harder.”
    • Eat

      • ChangSho
      • Trident with the meetup last week
      • Smile Thai week before that

    Notes:

Construction note: There might still be a fence around Harkness Commons preventing access to the Berkman Center via the Harvard Law School yard. It may be possible to cut through Pound Hall to get to a parking lot near the Berkman Center. For those coming from Harvard Square, it might be easier to travel along Massachusetts Avenue to the Berkman Center. map
