Foreign DVDs

Filmbrain always makes me want to see the movies he discusses but they’re never accessible on DVD. Not fair.

No kidding. Same here. OLD BOY for example is apparently available to buy from some overseas site, but the DVD is only Region 3, and I’m pretty sure my DVD player does not play All Regions. Am I missing something?

Ah…next you’ll be saying I’m sleeping with somebody to get them.

Region-free players are pretty easy to come by these days. However, there are a load of really crappy ones. Better to spend a little extra to get a good one.

The one I have plays both NTSC and PAL (needed if you want to watch DVDs from Europe) and works for all Regions. There are so many films that are only available in other regions — it was more than worth it for me.

I think I should start having weekly screenings of Oldboy at my place. (I’ve already had about four different people over to watch it.)

The Movie Blog recently posted a good article on sources of Asian DVDs, along with a list of recommended viewing:

In Addiction Counselling Circles This Would Be Known As “Enabling”

It doesn’t get into player recommendations though.
