Christopher T. Bavitz

CHRISTOPHER T. BAVITZ | Mentor, Digital Problem Solving Initiative Creation Spaces Team | Email | Chris Bavitz is Managing Director of Harvard Law School’s Cyberlaw Clinic, based at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society. He is also a Clinical Instructor and Lecturer on Law at HLS, where he co-teaches the Practical Lawyering in Cyberspace seminar and teaches the seminar, Music & Digital Media. Chris concentrates his practice on intellectual property and media law, particularly in the areas of music, entertainment, and technology. He oversees many of the Clinic's projects relating to copyright, speech, and advising of startups, and he serves as the HLS liaison to Harvard's Innovation Lab. Prior to joining the Clinic, Chris served as Senior Director of Legal Affairs for EMI Music North America. From 1998-2002, Chris was a litigation associate at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal and RubinBaum LLP / Rubin Baum Levin Constant & Friedman, where he focused on copyright and trademark matters. Chris received his B.A., cum laude, from Tufts University in 1995 and his J.D. from University of Michigan Law School in 1998.

Colin Maclay

COLIN MACLAY | Mentor, Digital Problem Solving Initiative Creation Spaces Team | Email | Colin M. Maclay is the Director of Harvard Business School's Digital Initiative. He previously served as Managing Director of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society. Colin's broad aim is to effectively and appropriately integrate information and communication technologies (ICTs) with social and economic development, focusing on the changes Internet technologies foster in society, policy and institutions. Both as Co-founder of the Information Technologies Group at Harvard’s Center for International Development and at Berkman, Maclay’s research has paired hands-on multi stakeholder collaborations with the generation of data that reveal trends, challenges and opportunities for the integration of ICTs in developing world communities. Colin has worked extensively in India, Latin America and at the international level on ICT policy for the underserved, developing and implementing research projects on topics including rural ICT access, ICTs in education, entrepreneurship, telecommunications infrastructure and policy, electronic government, and IT Enabled Services. He has a particular interest in leveraging universities’ unique capacity to engage in varied ICT policy and impact research and dialogue, and conduct technology research and development. Outside Harvard, he is a fellow at the University of Washington’s Center for Internet Studies, Chairman of the Sports for Development Foundation, and Advisor to the World Computer Exchange. Colin’s studies have taken him to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and Northeastern University.

Shradha Balakrishnan

SHRADHA BALAKRISHNAN | Shradha is a final year joint degree HKS MPA/Kellogg MBA student from New Delhi/San Francisco. She loves all things Internet and aspires to work in a space that is at the intersection of technology, social change and public policy.

Courtnay Saunders

Courtnay Saunders is a candidate for Master of Design Studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Interactions between digital and physical space are at the crux of her research, particularly in the articulation of new workplace practices as network culture redefines traditional hierarchies. Projects undertaken within the range of courses she has completed at HLS, HBS, SEAS and MIT have reflected her related interests in mediated forms of communication. Courtnay was a resident within the Harvard Innovation Lab during spring of 2013 after receiving a finalist nomination in the Dean’s Cultural Entrepreneurship Challenge for a proposal addressing the synthesis of design and technology via a digital platform for graduate level and early career practitioners. She previously worked as a production designer and art director for advertising photography in New York City, where she contributed to campaigns for independent cultural institutions and multinational organizations alike. Courtnay received her B.A. (hons) from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK in 2009.

Luca Simeone

LUCA SIMEONE | Luca Simeone is a fellow at metaLAB (at) Harvard and a PhD candidate at Malmö University in Sweden. He has conducted research activities in leading international centers (MIT, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Milan Politecnico), (co)authoring and (co)editing some 50 publications. Luca's latest book (Visualizing the Data City, Springer, 2014) explores the potential of data visualizations for more inclusive urban design, planning, management processes. He is the founder and managing partner of Vianet, an interaction design agency focused on delivering advanced technology and design solutions based on ethnographic research methods. Vianet has worked on more than 500 high-impact and award-winning projects, from interactive museums to experimental publishing platforms. Luca also works as a consultant for public and private organizations (the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) in order to help define strategies, policies, and funding schemes to support strategic design approaches targeted to innovation.
