Window Science

Now I know how to use my windows optimally, thanks to this. I’m psyched siked to improve my ability to keep cool without A/C, which is Sinful.

What I’m not siked about is that Manila doesn’t allow me to use a tag in any way I can figure out. It unhelpfully converts my HTML so that tags which it doesn’t approve of are escaped to appear as plaintext, as y’all can see above in the ruination of my witty visual joke. The internet seems to think I can tell Manila to recognize these strikethrough tags by enabling in the “legal tags” section of my preferences, but alas, it ain’t an option there. Anyone know how to fix this? Or better yet, how to just edit raw HTML?

Hear here! A/C is indeed sinful, and one of the serious impediments against my otherwise-strong desire to live on the East coast. If you can circumvent that…

But aren’t most of these double-hung sash windows by now missing the all-important counterweight that would make this possible?

As for editing raw HTML and the like, Dean Allen’s Textile is a fine system for converting between an HTML shorthand and real HTML, with the real HTML editable all along. ๐Ÿ˜›

I discovered this weekend another problem with that method of doing window ventilation: storm windows. My windows’ storm windows totally get in the way of any such nifty mechanism. (And of course the landlord doesn’t take them down during the summer.) So sad!

On the other hand, a thing that worked nicely was to turn the A/C on long enough to cool the room down to the already-cool outside temperature (the house was still hot), then turn off the A/C and just use fans and windows. Neat!

Storm windows! I’ve lived in the NW so long I’d forgotten what storm windows were. Ah the pinprick of memory.
