What’s the oldest car you’ve ever owned? In my case it was probably the 1980-something Subaru Wagon that I drove from the early 90s until I gave it to a friend last year. The best car I’ve ever owned was a 1985 Camry sedan. That was also the only new car I ever bought. Gave it to my daughter when I got the Subaru, and she drove it for years after that.

  1. I had 55 chevy 2 door hardtop – they threw in the rust for free! Had a really nice 72 Kharmann Ghia hardtop – was one of my favorite cars, very reliable, but with no AC not so great for Dallas. Then there was the 1980 Corona Wagon – we got that one up to 235k miles on the first clutch! It was 13 years old when we parted ways. The oldest for me was the 55 – I had it in 87 so 32yrs. The Ghia I had in 96 so only 24 years. Currently no car – a 2006 Vespa GT60!

  2. A 1993 Toyota Previa purchased new that my wife forced us to buy. I fell in love with that red jelly bean after a couple of months. We drove it until last year. Over 320,000km on the clock when it was sold to one of my sons’ friend. I actually regret the sale now. Most of the mileage came from regular trips between Toronto and Pittsburgh – with about 10 Florida trips thrown in for good measure. (When we sold the Previa we had three vehicles – and couldn’t get rid of the Yukon XL which was finally sold last week. My mother recently gave us her 1993 Mustang with about 30k on the clock. It’s a four cylinder. Yikes! I do want a Vespa for the city.)

  3. My first car was a 61 Plymouth Valiant, purchased in 1970. The floor boards were rusted out and I had to build new ones out of plywood. The radio had tubes and took a bit to warm up, but sounded great. It had a stick shift on the floor that wrapped around the bench seat. We’ve since owned a long line of Toyotas and have loved every one. Even though we’ve only had it a short time, the best seems to be the new Camry hybrid. It has every high tech bell and whistle, has the signature Camry quiet, solid ride and is living up to it’s reputation as a fuel saver. The only bad thing is the incredibly poor design of the Sirius sat radio antenna. It’s placement on the inside of the windshield has lead to signal dropouts, so we are seeking a solution.

  4. A 1954 Buick Roadmaster convertible. It was tank; it weighed abut 5000 pounds. Do I get a prize for the oldest?

  5. 69 chevy nova. blue. bought it from my brother for that usual dollar. he bought it before he could get his license and worked on it every day in the driveway (to the great delight of my mother and all the neighbours in weston, ma., you can imagine).

if i had my druthers i would be driving an el camino, a ranchero, an early 70s buick station wagon or a riviera. here in france. my grandmother told me to never buy a car you can’t pay for in cash. now we have one volvo for 7 people. seems to work out. i would like a moped or a dirt bike to go buy bread and drive the “baby” to school, but they cost half as much as our car. ridiculous.

read somewhere recently that neil young is driving a huge vintage lincoln cross-country, having it converted to bio-diesel/electric and driving it back. also, willie nelson has started up a bio-diesel co.

  6. I have to say my first (vehicle) was a 1985 vintage Vespa. Although it was a pleasure to drive a Vespas natural state is broken.

  8. The oldest vehicle that I owned was a 1967 Chevy Pick up Short bed. I owned it for about 2 years. I wanted a classic to fix up, and it was the same age as me. I rebuilt the engine from a book and ended up totally dismantling it when I bought a bunch of neumatic equipment. It was a learning experience that I absolutley loved.
