Sad news

The strangest thing about Dan Schorr dying is that he isn’t here to explain it on NPR. I always liked Schorr’s take on things, even when I didn’t agree with him. When was his last commentary? Haven’t found that yet. Didn’t seem like long ago.

He was 93. We should all live so long, and well.

  1. Amen to that. Amazing to think that no matter how old he got and how long we listened to him, his silence still came too soon. Thanks for helping mark this memory.

  2. Hey Bernie.

By the way, The Kid asked a couple days ago, “Where is Doctor Fun?” This should be a clue to use.

I’m in Cambridge now, but I get around. I believe you’re within a time zone or two from here. Something should be arranged.

  3. His last commentary was July 10. He died with his boots on for sure. I am so sad I feel like crying, although every week I was amazed he was still there. I think it’s journalism itself that I’m in mourning for. I wonder what he thought of this latest example of media decay (Breitbart, et al). It seem like that metaphorically killed him.

  4. NPR “Host Scott Simon pays a final tribute to Daniel Schorr with a remembrance of Schorr’s unlikely friendship with rocker Frank Zappa.” at

Warning: it will very likely bring tears to your eyes.
