Fourth of July grilling should start with irradiated hamburger

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL (July 2, 2003) — Steaks and burgers are two of
the more common choices for grilling, but beef can harbor harmful bacteria.
Consumers can
greatly reduce their likelihood of contracting a foodborne illness by choosing
irradiated hamburger. July, August, and September are months that typically
have an increase in the number of Escherichia coli O157:H7 (commonly known
as E. coli)and Salmonella cases.
