Handicapped Indian Athlete Wins Hands Down

NEW YORK – USTA officials today ruled that teenaged Indian
tennis star Kali Idol will be allowed to play in the US Open with up
to 10 tennis raquets simultaneously. Kali has suffered since birth with
eight extra, fully-functional arms and hands.

"There’s nothing in the rules to prevent any other player from using
two raquets at the same time," said.tournament official Lance Manifold,
"I think this is a sterling example of turning a handicap into an asset."

Idol was born in 1986 in Bombay with 10 functioning arms and hands. Doctors
had planned to amputate the extra limbs but Kali’s parents objected.
"Those
extra arms might come in handy someday," her father joked. Appearantly
tennis officials agree, although opposing players are "up in arms."
