BERLIN – Armin Meiwes, charged with killing,
dismembering and eating the flesh of an Internet acquaintance, said
there were ‘hundreds, thousands’ of people seeking to eat humans
or to be eaten.

Their advertisements can be found in Internet forums such as Cannibal Cafe,
Guy Cannibals and Torturenet, he said in his chilling account on the opening
day of his trial.

After his victim downed sleeping tablets and whisky, Meiwes cut off
the man’s penis, which they had planned to eat together, but found it
was inedible ‘even when fried’.

Meiwes said he stabbed his victim the next morning, believing he was
already dead, and hung his body from a hook in the ceiling of his kitchen.He
recorded his act on a videotape that is being used as evidence.

‘I kissed
him once more, prayed and pleaded for forgiveness,’ he told the court.He
dissected the corpse, slicing off 30kg of the flesh which he stored
in a freezer.

He later ate two-thirds of it.’With every bite, my memory
of
him grew stronger,’ he said.’I had the fantasy, and in the end I
fulfilled it.’After I had done it, I felt hate, anger, happiness, all
at once.
But I couldn’t regret it because this is what we both wanted.’
