US Sec of Education Calls Teachers “Terrorists”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Education Secretary Rod Paige called the nation’s
largest teachers union a "terrorist organization” during a private
White House meeting with governors on Monday.

Democratic and Republican governors confirmed Paige’s remarks about the
National Education Association.`These were the words, ‘The NEA is a terrorist
organization,”’ said Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle of Wisconsin.

Whoa! Who knew! We were seriously thinking of joining their teacher’s
group health insurance program if we lose our BU benefits! What a narrow
escape. We certianly hope and expect that Secretary Paige is in contact
with Secretary Ridge and Attorney General Ashcroft and that they are
even now in the process of rounding up these terrorist scum.

They may
need to expand the holding pens in Guantanamo in preparation for the
NEA’s 2.7 million members, but the only way to defeat these terrorist
organizations is to roll them up like soiled rugs, exfoliating their roots
so they can’t grow back. Thank God our leaders were able to detect this threat in time…

There’s an important distinction between calling teachers “terrorists” and calling the teacher’s union “terrorists.”

The existence and legality of unions is controversial, the left tending to be in favor and the right against.

    Everybody likes teachers.

Your headline says the secretary is badmouthing them, but in fact he’s being a right winger and bad-mouthing unions. So your head is misleading.

Second, you imply in your Guantanamo comment that all members of the teacher’s union are in favor of the union. My belief is that teachers choose to become teachers because they love teaching, not unions. They’re in the union by force (which, ironically, is not the case with real terrorist organizations… ; ). Some unknowable percentage of the teachers agree with Paige.

Unions function today like wasteful, beaurocratic extortion rackets, forcing people who want to do specific things for a living to hand over their earnings as “dues” — or else!

It’s wrong and bad to label the NEA a terrorist organization, but necessary, in my opinion, to oppose them at every opportunity. They waste money, force people to “join” an organization they may not want to join, create harmful antagonism between employers and employees and generally make life worse for millions of Americans.

I think the best way to support teachers is to ban the teacher’s union and let teachers keep their dues money as a much deserved raise.

    Mike
