DO QUARTERBACKS NEED TRIG?

Math and sports have important links that go way beyond just figuring
out Manny’s slugging percentage. From Vegas oddsmaking to the physics
of a
golf swing, math is a tool that affects everything about our recreational
lives. On Wednesday, applied-math specialist Joseph B. Keller will lecture
at Harvard on the wide and sometimes surprising importance of numbers in
understanding fun. ”The Mathematics of Games and Sports," Harvard
University, Maxwell Dworkin Lab, Lessin Auditorium, 33 Oxford St., Cambridge.

    This should indeed be interesting. Mathematics and statistics were quite important in our own planning efforts. While they could not take us all the way the knowledge of people such as Werner Von Braun was very helpful with your own space and missle programs. The youth of today often forgets the importance of knowledge. They are too concerned with MTV and surface appearances and think to paraphrase a comment from my Communist colleague Mao (they don’t make them like in the old days) that “revolution is a dinner party”. In fact maintaining control is a lot of hard work.
