Convergence of Catholicism and Capitalism

A doll in honour
of the Pope has gone on sale in Germany.

The 16-inch collectable version of 78-year-old Pope Benedict XVI costs
93 euros ($108).

It has moveable arms and legs for emulating the Pope’s wave and even wears
the full papal apparel.

Only 999 of the limited edition dolls will be sold by toy makers Schildkroet.

Wait a minute! We recognize that doll! That’s just the Tyco
Toys "Baby Heine Doll" ($14.95) dressed up in a Barbie Evening Gown
($7.95)
with a cheap plastic charm bracelet cross ($.29) around its neck! In
sweatshops from Queens to Shanghai reasonable facsimiles of this item
are marching out the factory doors….
