Wake Up America

To Each His Own

ø

Once again, the day after Thanksgiving, this year Nov.
25th, is expected to be the biggest shopping day of the year.  Strange
that the advertising industry couldn’t come up with a snapier nickname
for the day than "Black Friday". We get White Sales, and Red Tag Sales and
Blue Light Specials, but Black Friday sounds like a stock market crash
or a bad horror flick.

A group of incorrigible anti-Capitalist do-gooders called
Adbusters has for several years been encouraging people to BUY
NOTHING
on Friday, as a sort of symbolic protest. They say:

For 24 hours, millions
of people around the world do not participate — in the doomsday economy,
the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that’s become
our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink
our footprint and gain some calm.

Of
course, fiscal restraint may not be your cup of tea, in which case let
us reccomend Flex Deals.  They are dedicated to
sniffing out and posting unpublished specials at the major stores – like
$349 laptops at Best Buy. They have a special, and quite extensive, list
of unadvertised Black
Friday specials
.
