Killer Cartoons

In
this cartoon, from Al-Watan (Oman) (August 10, 2002), Jewish acts are
equated with those of the Nazis. This Nazi-type anti-Semitic caricature
of a Jew has a hooked nose, a hunched back, has no shoes, and is sweating.

Although we have decided to uncharacteristically
refrain from posting any of the 12 offending drawings of Muhammed, we
can’t resist getting in on some of the controversy. To show that we can clearly
relate to
people being deeply offended by callous and viscious cartoons attacking
our religion and the things we hold closest to our heart, we have decided
to
reprint some
other examples of this reprehensible practice.

Seeing such racist and anti-semitic cartoons makes us want to race out
to the streets and start a world-wide religious war against anyone with
such a lack of respect as to publish distorted lies like these…..

In the above cartoon, from Akhbar Al-Khalij (Bahrain) (June 10, 2002),
the anti-Semitic caricature of a Jew on the right says: "Say: "I hate
the Arabs!" and American president George W. Bush, made to resemble
a parrot, repeats: "I hate the Arabs, I hate the Arabs."

Another
major theme in Arab cartoons is the bloodloving or blood-thirsty Jew.
In today’s Arab world this image of unbridled hatred has mutated
into the alleged quest for Palestinian blood.
Blood-drinking Jews are frequently shown by Al Ahram, one of
Egypt’s leading dailies. On 21 April 2001, it printed a cartoon showing
an Arab being put into a flatting mill by two soldiers wearing helmets
with Stars of David. The Arab’s blood pours out and two Jews with kippot
and Stars of David on their shirts drink the blood laughingly.

A Jewish Devil (Ariel
Sharon), walks on the bones of dead Arabs.

It is clear that nothing can be gained by trying to understand or reason with people who would publish such
distorted trash.  The only solution is to kill them, obviously.
Or are we missing something here?

authors note: It occurs to us that in today’s hyper-heated debate environment, we should make it explicitly clear that the previous comments are facetious in nature. Humor blogging can be dangerous when faced with readers completely lacking a sense of humor….

Seems these images are much more provacative than the Mohammad cartoons that enraged muslims in Europe. I think the field of editorial cartooning is basically subjective and open to interpretation. Thank you very much for posting these previously published samples.
