DPLA Beta Sprint – Index Data
Name: Sebastian Hammer
Affiliation: Index Data
URL: http://dpla.indexdata.com/submission.htm…
This submission consists of two parts: a prototype of a discovery system based on some of Index Data’s technologies and a document detailing a vision for the DPLA.
The discovery system interface employs a variety of methods—including harvesting and indexing as well as broadcast searching using standard protocols, and public or proprietary APIs—to make a number of resources
accessible through a search function.
The document provides general profiles of potential DPLA users and advocates for the willingness to deliver services in popular, user-friendly forms such as social networks and online, collaborative environments. The project also advocates for Linked Data that would link biographical information about authors, their different works, collaborators, areas of interest, and more with different options for obtaining representations of the original works. The data could be crawled and analyzed for scholarly or research purposes, or it could be used to produce compelling learning and discovery experiences for students and others.
