DPLA in Google Maps and Google Earth

This project describes a mashup of DPLA content and Google Earth.  Google Earth would be annotated with links to DPLA hosted content, which would serve to enrich a user’s discovery of new content. The cultural geomapping of DPLA materials in Google Maps and Google Earth would allow users to find rich traditions of musical, artistic, literary and scientific thought connected to the geographic places they are exploring, and would encourage serendipitous discovery of the DPLA’s resources.

In addition, users could be encouraged to make DPLA collections of their own, creating and sharing their own maps of DPLA collections and materials. This could result in a variety of interesting user-created collections such as Google Maps and Google Earth layers of DPLA in digital music, online oral histories, and digital images.
