Head Scratching

I have nothing against it, but I am trying to understand the reversion to domesticity among women my age.  I just returned from a leisurely lunch with some old friends; out of the five of us, I was the only one who planned to continue working after I have a kid.  After surveying other non-law school friends, staying at home seems to be the predominant choice.  How did this come about?  When did B school become a nice finishing school for future wives?

i actually had this convo with some finance friends all the time. most of my gal friends making the really major big bucks (some nearly half a mil!) the last 4-5 years plan to stop working when they have kids. it’s kinda funny that this highly motivated individuals from wharton, harvard, and mit undergrad strive to be a housewife later on. of course they all worry they can’t find men who will be able to support them since they look positioned to be the breadwinners.

but whatevers, i honestly can’t say i’m much different. i consider myself independent and successful but eventually when i have kids i want to work my business from home. my goal is to develop my practice well enuff so i can do that =) also, i will have a B&B in vermont to manage too hehe

That’s so interesting that you mention that because I’ve been grappling with the idea of what to do after I get married and bust out a couple of kids. I for sure do not want to give up my career but at the same time I also do not want my kids to be raised by a nanny or a babysitter. So, I’ve come to perfect solution. I will live with my mother and she will raise my kids while I work. Heeheehee.
