Ringo’s almost 64

. . .  RingoBach . . .   On Wednesday, July 7, 2004, Ringo Starr will be the first of the Beatles to turn

sixty-four.   a/k/a  “Mr. Barbara Bach,” Ringo is a harbinger for a generation hoping to age well.

With images of Valentines and firesides, we all wonder “Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?”  [above photo from barbarabach.com; thanks, Carlos. See lyrics to Ringo’s hit “Photograph” here.]

Issa wrote many haiku on growing old.  Here are three of my favorites:

even to these old eyes–
cherry blossoms!
cherry blossoms!

growing old–
even the cherry blossoms
a bit annoying

in an old, old
OLD kettle…
pure water

from The Haiku of Kobayashi Issa, David G. Lanoue, translator.
