Kobayashi Issa

Issa is one of the four most venerated poets of classic Japanese haiku. Born Kobayashi Yatar? 1763, he chose Issa (Cup-of-Tea) as his haiku name. Although this site is primarily focused on original English-language haiku, Issa’s work appears often in our regular posting, taking advantage of the many topics covered in his vast oeuvre.

Thanks to translator, David G. Lanoue, The Haiku of Kobayashi Issa website is our source.  It has over 9000 haiku by Issa and is fully searchable by topic and season. You can find Issa haiku on particular topics that have been used at f/k/a by using keywords in our site’s Google search box (in the Sidebar).
