A Discussion with former Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik

Ursula Plassnik has a law degree from the University of Vienna, as well as a postgraduate degree from the College of Europe in Bruges. Ms. Plassnik began her career in the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where she held various positions. In 1997, Ms. Plassnik was chosen as the Cabinet Chief for Vice Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel. When Mr. Schüssel became the Austrian Chancellor in 2000, Ms. Plassnik remained Cabinet Chief in his government until 2004, when she was appointed Foreign Minister. During her term as the Foreign Minister of Austria, Ms. Plassnik also served as the President of the EU Council in 2006.
