One of the questions we’ve been asking ourselves over here at Herdict is “How effective are we at monitoring filtering on the web in real time?” Today we’ve encountered a new data point. It appears that Guatemala has begun filtering the popular blogging site WordPress. And, Herdict has been right there tracking the blockage. The OpenNet Initiative has more details.
Since we launched Herdict, we’ve had a few spikes of activity from Guatemala, but over the past month it’s been pretty quiet. Then over the course of 24 hours, we’ve received over 50 reports, most of which pertaining to WordPress. Guatemala has climbed to the most reported country by the herd. The Herdict report on Guatemala can be found here. From our perspective, it’s great to see that when filtering does occur, it’s being reported to Herdict.
