Coming soon: Home Movie Day 2010!

September 24th, 2010

The HFA counts a small yet significant set of home movies within its film collection.  The largest of these are the Carry Wagner Collection and the Max Tennis Collection, both shot by amateur filmmakers who traveled the world capturing slices of history with their 16mm cameras during the mid twentieth century.  You can read more about both of these collections on our HFA Collections page.

While some home movies have found their way into archives, many others remain within the families who shot them.  That’s where Home Movie Day comes in — since many owners of home movies no longer own projectors or other equipment to view their films, Home Movie Day provides a space for people to bring their home movies to be inspected and projected by film archivists!

This year, Home Movie Day takes place all over the world on October 16!  Check www.homemovieday.com for a location in your city.

Boston details below:

HOME MOVIE DAY provides the opportunity for you to see and share your own home movies with an audience of your community, and to see your neighbors’ in turn! It’s a chance to discover why it’s important to care about and how to care for these precious films.

Bring your super 8, 8mm, and 16mm films to share, or just come to watch! We inspect your films for damage and project them on the big screen! Video formats are also welcome (VHS & DVD) — please cue ahead of time and limit your clips to 5 minutes.
