Semester Abroad: Upcoming Deadlines and Event

A reminder that Friday, February 14 is the deadline for J.D. students to submit an application to spend the fall 2014 semester abroad. HLS has formal exchange programs in Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, France, Japan, South Africa, South Korea and Switzerland; J.D students may also conduct an independent semester abroad at law schools throughout the world.

New for the fall 2014 semester, the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Law is offering the Certificate in Transnational Law for the first time in English. The course of study features classes taught by leading specialists experienced in the practice of international law. Please see the certificate webpage for more information.

With applications for semester abroad in fall 2014 due on February 14, this session is designed especially for current applicants. Drop in to ask any questions before submitting your application, and feel free to bring your lunch.

 

Chayes Fellowship: Deadlines and More Information

A reminder to HLS students planning to apply for a 2014 Chayes International Public Service Fellowshipthe deadline for submitting your application is Saturday, February 1. You must also contact International Legal Studies by Friday, January 31 to schedule a 15-minute interview with a Chayes Program representative.

Interview times are available from  9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, Thursday, February 6, and Friday, February 7. Applicants should call International Legal Studies at (617) 384-5284 or send an e-mail to ils@law.harvard.edu, no later than 5 p.m. on January 31, indicating times when you are available. You will receive a confirmation
e-mail indicating the time and place for your interview and the name of your interviewer.

Application Deadline for HLS-Cambridge J.D./LL.M. Joint Degree Program: January 10, 2014

The Harvard Law School and the University of Cambridge J.D./LL.M.
Joint Degree Program provides an efficient avenue to earn two
degrees by enabling Harvard J.D. candidates to earn a Cambridge
LL.M. and a Harvard J.D. in a total of three-and-a-half years.

Up to six Harvard 2Ls are selected annually to spend their 3L year
reading for the LL.M. degree in Cambridge, England. The deadline to apply for study at Cambridge in the 2014-2015 academic year is
Friday, January 10, 2014.

Introducing 2013-2014 HLS Community Language Tables

The Graduate Forum announces the launch of 2013-2014 Language Tables. All members of the HLS community are welcome.  Join enthusiasts – whether experienced speakers or beginners – for casual conversation in the language of your choice.  This is a great chance to practice or even to get started.  Language tables will be held in the Hark and designated with a tent card specifying the language being used.

All levels welcome and encouraged. A list of initial meetings follows:

Arabic: Friday, November 18th, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

French:  TBD

German: Friday, November 15, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Italian: Wednesday, November 13, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Japanese: Wednesday, November 13, 12:00 p.m. (Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday)

Mandarin: Friday, November 15, 12:00-1:00 p.m. (Every Friday)

Spanish: Thursday, November 14, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Winter Term Opportunities: Writing and Clinical Projects and International Travel Grants

Upper-year J.D. and LL.M. students at HLS can apply to participate in winter term writing or clinical projects.  Students who will be traveling abroad in furtherance of an approved winter term writing or clinical project are eligible to apply for Winter Term International Travel Grants.  Come find out more!
