Still Waffling on Sajjan Kumar
April 6, 2004 | Comments Off on Still Waffling on Sajjan Kumar
While the Congress Party has pretty much settled on Jagdish Tytler as their candidate from the Sadar constituency in Delhi, they’re still waffling on Sajjan Kumar:
In Outer Delhi, a Jat-dominated area, the candidature of senior leader Sajjan Kumar has run into trouble with those opposed to him bringing up the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The argument being forwarded is that the Sikh votes will be alienated if the ticket is given to Kumar.
Strangely, this rationale was not applied to the selection of Tytler as a candidate. Tytler has also been cited by victims and witnesses of the 1984 carnage against Sikhs as a perpetrator and organizer of the violence. The Nanavati Commission, re-examining the 1984 violence, has also issued Section 8B notices against Tytler and Kumar, giving them an opportunity to answer evidence against them.
The 1984 section of the blog has recent news on the Commission.
