The chief of India’s National Commission for Minorities, Tarlochan Singh, has basically blamed the Muslim community for the attacks perpetrated on them in India:

‘‘For the last 15 days, Muslim clerics have been openly asking their people to vote for a particular party—this kind of politics is precisely responsible for the plight of the Muslim community.’’…

‘It’s a fact that not one person has been booked for killing of some 4,000 Sikhs. But still, you will find Sikh leaders in all political parties including the Shiv Sena where they safeguard the community’s interests,’’ he said.

Tarlochan Singh should blame the actual killers and organizers of the 2002 Gujarat pogroms against Muslims for the “plight of the Muslim community.”  Instead, he does not seem to believe in holding accountable the political institutions that support these perpetrators.

Singh even defended the Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that only the Muslim leaders have mixed politics with religion in India’s ongoing elections.
