Total public debt with court-ordered payments reaches R$97.3bn

The total debt of the Union, states and municipalities with court-ordered payments (precatórios) has already reached R$97.3 billion, and it keeps rising amid uncertainties involving the Federal Supreme Court’s ruling on the payment method. The data was revealed in the latest survey of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). Compared to the last survey in July 2012, the debt of states and municipalities grew at least R$1.6 billion over the past two years. The number may be even higher because the CNJ was unable to explain the methodology of the 2012 study.
