The Librarian Is Very Enthusiastic

September 12th, 2006

At the beginning of the school year, I gleefully waste paper. It’s a bit dangerous to come near me, actually, especially if I don’t know you, because you risk being sent away with maps, and HOLLIS guides, and business cards, and a job application…and about ten thousand librarian-inflicted paper cuts. Oops.

But one of the great things about September is that I get to indoctrinate new people…er…point out all sorts of interesting things, like this:

E-Research@Harvard Libraries.

Now, why the developers stuck that easy-to-forget hyphen in the url, I’ll never know, but nomenclature aside, this site is just plain cool. How could I not like a library portal that (standard disclaimer: features include but are not limited to): links me to online journal indexes, reference books, and streaming audio; stores a portfolio of citations and resources that I use all the time; and lets me – which I literally did not know until five minutes ago when I checked out the sci-fi journals on a whim – read Femspec online?
