Welcome to Marxism International!

Welcome to Marxism International, a site devoted to issues of labor and contemporary politics.   I hope you find my blog informative and worthwhile.

Marxism-International began life as a mailing list at the University of Virginia back in 1996.   We moved to Emory three years later, and left there in early 2004.   In both instances, political differences led to a parting of ways.   In Emory’s case, it was our ardent defense of Adolfo Olaechea, arrested in Spain on an Interpol warrant charging him with being part of the “general command” of Peru’s Shining Path.   Incidentally, Adolfo had been, prior to his arrest and extradition (see Links), a co-moderator of M-I, a position which I also held as one of a trio of co-founders.    Reincarnated here, Marxism-International retains the flavor of the original while continuing to grow in new and fruitful directions.   Personally speaking,  I remain in close touch with Comrade Olaechea – now under virtual house arrest in Lima – and consider him one of the most prescient and original thinkers of our time.

    I was looking for info on the Olaechea case, together with the details of his arrest and extradition last summer. Is he still in Peru? Also, is there a site with regular updates on his appeal? Thanks, Roxanne

    I will be posting something on Adolfo Olaechea very shortly. He is still in Lima, though out on bail since November. There is currently a petition before the Spanish government to refuse Peru’s request for an extension of Adolfo’s extradition. This is in response to the “extension of charges” filed against Adolfo in Lima following his release in November. I am posting shortly a copy of this petition and other info. In the meantime, feel free to call the Olaechea Cmte at 401 617 9088.

    A real-life Marxism-and-Sciences list is being created here at Harvard. When done, all former subscribers who are interested will be re-subbed to the new list. In the meantime, feel free to post newsworthy items pertinent to M-and-S or Marxism International to this blog.

    Hi Greg;

    Good to hear from you!  How are things at Gangbox?   Much work in NYC?  I just started this contraption late last month.  I plan to do some revisions this weekend (Decoration Day).  Give me a call if you get a chance.

    Good start! Maybe you could post something about what’s happening right now with the Toledo government and the recent riots in Ayachucho.
