Radio Berkman 171: Wikileaks and the Information Wars

Our emails have been dinging off the hook here at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, with notes from journalists and concerned citizens trying to make some sense of the story-in-progress that is Wikileaks.
So today we pull together some of the brightest minds at the Berkman Center to talk about Wikileaks, with Jonathan Zittrain and Lawrence Lessig moderating.
Zittrain, Lessig, and the Berkman Center Fellows explore many facets surrounding the Wikileaks imbroglio, including the values of transparency and freedom of speech; the legality and ethics of the Wikileaks data dump; the role of the news media; and the involvement of government and private tech organizations to take Wikileaks down.

There is an increase in the allegations that Assange has unilaterally removed embarrassing Israeli cables from the US State Dept. cable releases. The allegations is that Assange had met with Israeli officials and may have been paid off in order to destroy or halt the release of these type of documents. If these allegations are true: Assange’s moral argument for transparency are completely null and void.
Compounding these allegations is the way in which Assange has handled the organization. His dictatorial control over content that was not created by him is troubling. Assange has also become the news rather than the leaked cables themselves.

1. It’s not a .txt file (which can be viewed in your browser). It’s an .rtf file which needs a word processor to view it. Please change it to a .txt file (Make sure it has line feeds every 75 characters or so as some browsers don’t wrap txt files).
2. @Michael Barbere. Citation required, as they say on Wikipedia. Who is making these allegations and where are they getting their information from? Without references this sounds like just another smear.
