A sense of proportion

Here in Cambridge, we rather enjoyed this little exercise in comparing part of the Middle East to the northeastern United States. It was done a couple of years back by Andy Carvin, National Public Radio’s senior product manager for online communities, who simply overlaid Google maps of the two regions, on the same scale. The result gives one a sense of proportion—to be exact, how small an area this part of the Middle East is. (If you can’t see the clip embedded above, go here.)
