“An attack was also launched against the back of the building where the pizza restaurant is. This building is almost one minute away from the tent where the fight started, and to reach it, the attackers had to break through a gate. They must have had not only a knowledge of the street layout but also a firm intent to do harm.
“What really happened that night in the tent where the fight began, a fight that ended with fourteen people injured? We met with a young man who claimed that the dispute had started with him.
“Young Man: It was all the fault of the ones from India. They started it.
“Journalist: How?
“Young Man: We were just here in the tent, dancing. Then those guys came along and started shoving us and things like that. So I stood up, and they started hitting me and stuff. I got hit with somebody’s fist three times, and I took out some pepper spray and sprayed their eyes. Then things really got going.
“Journalist: Why did you have pepper spray with you?
“Young man: Because I knew something would happen. Just for self-defense. The others, the Nazis, are the ones who went on with it. I kept out.
“Journalist: There were Nazis here?
“Young man: Yeah.
“Journalist: You knew that Nazis were here?
“Young man: Yeah, you recognize them.
“Journalist: How?
“Young man: Yeah, well, everybody knows them!
“A special police investigation will eventually explain just how harmless the partygoer with the pepper spray really was.
“Ilka Peter, West Saxony police: ‘I think that it was a situation where people were urging each other on, and then things started to escalate. A few neo-Nazi slogans were shouted, but the people who were doing the shouting didn’t come in and didn’t stay around very long.’
“Journalist: The men from India, meanwhile, had already taken refuge in the pizzeria. Then things really got going, according to an eyewitness who does not want to be identified. For about a half hour, it is reported, there were only a few police officers at the entrance to the Pizzeria Piccobello, guarding it from a mob.
“Witness: At first there was this huge crowd, and six policemen, in front of the Picobello (sic) pizzeria. Then this really enormous crowd was standing in front of the Picobello (sic) shop, around 100 or 150 people – and not just right-wing extremists. All the locals, as individuals, were taking action.
“(Journalist:) The witness said that this situation lasted a rather long time, and then the riot police arrived. It was then that the conflict escalated and became a massive battle, according to the witness.
“(Journalist:) People were standing about 150 meters (165 yards) from the riot police, and they started taking up paving stones and throwing them. Some bottles were also thrown.
“Journalist: ‘Who was throwing things at whom?’
“Witness: ‘People were throwing bottles at the police. Nobody can say they were all right-wing extremists. They were just ordinary local people, from every social level.’
“The West Saxony police confirmed this.
“Ilka Peter, West Saxony police spokesperson: ‘Then the street battle started, with people throwing beer bottles, beer glasses, and tableware at the police officers. And of course the police defended themselves.’
“Journalist: ‘Was that a street battle?’
“Ilka Peter, West Saxony police spokesperson: ‘A street battle – well, I’ve known other street battles. It certainly was a tricky situation’.
“Muegeln: population just under 5,000. Not much happens in this town where the processes of building up and tearing down eastern Germany go on all around it. A lot of people in Muegeln feel abandoned by ‘those above us,’ i.e., politicians and the authorities. The result is a sense of frustration and a sullen attitude toward the government.
“Saxony’s prime minister, Georg Milbradt, stops by to check out the situation.
“He claps Muegeln’s mayor on the shoulder. The latter has been in office for seventeen years and says he doesn’t understand his townspeople anymore. He plays down the issue and says that Muegeln is not a right-wing extremist place.
“Gotthard Deuse, member of the Liberal Democratic Party and Mayor of Muegeln: ‘I’m telling you quite simply that this thing was a spontaneous event that just escalated. I think nobody wanted to give offense. Things like that always happen at public festivals. If the men from India had not been there, there would have – yes, there can be friction like that among Germans too. It always happens’.
“(Journalist:) ‘So, everything is as it should be? We found one young man who doesn’t agree. He talks about violence and hatred of foreigners in Muegeln, but he’s afraid. He doesn’t want his face shown on camera – like most of the people here’.
“Young man: ‘There’s nothing here anymore, no future.’
“(Journalist:) ‘Why not?’
“Young man: ‘I just mean that it’s too risky to live here. If I sometimes – I’ve sometimes come home from a birthday party at two or three in the morning, and they harass you in the square, say or do something stupid. So there’s nothing here.’
“(Journalist:) ‘You mean, right-wing guys harass you?’
Young man: ‘Yeah, they’re always around.’
“(Journalist:) ‘So you believe there’s a real pattern of thinking behind what they do?
“Young man: ‘Yeah, they think they’re on the right side and they’re right-wing. And there’s hatred of foreigners in their thinking too. They think, “The foreigners are taking our work away,” or something like that. Or they think, “We Germans have to work for nothing, and the foreigners get the money.” That’s what they think.’
“(Journalist:) ‘There have been warning signs. The local youth club was reportedly attacked last weekend. Club members told us about it, but they too were afraid to appear on camera. They said they went to the police two weeks ago and asked for help and advice. The police told them just to close the youth club. The situation has stayed like that’.
“(Journalist:) The local youth club was closed. The threats worked. And at the foreigners’ counselling center in the nearby town of Doebeln the number of reported cases of attacks on foreigners continues to increase.
Torsten Fischaeder of the organization Netzwerk Doebeln (Doebeln Network): ‘If there’ve been seven or eight serious attacks this year in this county alone, then the situation can’t be much different in the neighboring counties. In any case, it’s been well documented that the danger from the right wing has not decreased at all.”

(Bemerkung: Die Relevanz dieses Artikels liegt darin, dass eine Vertuschung in einer Kleinstadt wie Mügeln auch in Sachsen, in Sebnitz, passieren kann. Es ist möglich, dass das passierte, zur Zeit des Todes Josephs.)
„Die Verfolger griffen auch von der Gebäuderückseite an – fast eine Minute Weg, dazwischen ein Tor, das aufgebrochen werden musste – das setzt Ortskenntnis und feste Absicht voraus.
Was ist wirklich passiert in der Nacht, als der Streit im Festzelt begann, und mit insgesamt 14 Verletzten im Tumult endete? Wir treffen einen Jugendlichen, der behauptet, mit ihm habe die Auseinandersetzung begonnen.
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Die Inder waren doch selber dran schuld. Die haben doch angefangen.
O-Ton Frontal21: Wieso?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Na ja, wir waren hier im Festzelt, waren wir tanzen. Na, dann kamen sie an uns zu schubsen und so was. Na ja, dann stand ich draußen, dann haben sie mich angefangen zu schlagen und so. Dann habe ich drei, vier Faustschläge abgekriegt. Na, dann habe ich’s Pfefferspray rausgeholt und denen in die Augen gesprüht und dann ging’s schon los.
O-Ton Frontal21: Warum hatten Sie Pfefferspray?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Weil ich wusste, dass was losgeht. Als Notwehr. Die Anderen, die Nazis haben dann weitergemacht, ich hab mich dann rausgehalten.
O-Ton Frontal21: Es waren Nazis hier?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Ja.
O-Ton Frontal21: Sie wussten, dass hier Nazis sind?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Sieht man eigentlich.
O-Ton Frontal21: Woran?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Na ja, die sind schon bekannt!
Wie harmlos dieser pfefferspraybewaffnete Partygänger wirklich war, wird die Polizei-Sonderermittlungsgruppe klären.
O-Ton Ilka Peter, Polizeidirektion Westsachsen: Ich denke mal, das ist eine Situation gewesen, die sich hochgeschaukelt hat, die dann angefangen hat zu eskalieren. Es sind rechtsradikale Parolen gerufen worden, aber der, der die Parolen gerufen hat, muss noch lange nicht die Tür eingetreten haben.
(Journalist:) Die Inder hatten sich inzwischen in der Pizzeria verschanzt. Da ging es erst richtig los, berichtet uns ein Augenzeuge, der Angst hat, offen zu sprechen. Rund eine halbe Stunde lang sollen nur ein paar Polizisten den Eingang der Pizzeria Piccobello vor dem Mob geschützt haben.
O-Ton anonymer Zeuge: Erst stand da ’ne Menschenmasse, sechs Polizisten standen vor dem Picobello (sic), und ’ne Riesen Menschenmasse stand im Halbkreis vor dem Picobello (sic) -Laden, circa 100 bis 150 Leute – nicht nur Rechtsradikale. Vereinzelte Personen, haben alle Bürger agiert.
(Journalist:) Es dauert eine längere Zeit, dann trifft ’Bepo’, die Bereitschaftspolizei, ein, berichtet der Zeuge. Jetzt erst sei der Konflikt zum Massenkrawall eskaliert.
Dann standen die Leute vielleicht 150 Meter entfernt von der ’Bepo’ und fingen an, Kopfsteinpflastersteine zu entfernen und die zu werfen. Und Flaschen wurde geworfen.
O-Ton Frontal21: Wer hat da auf wen geworfen?
O-Ton anonymer Zeuge: Die Bürger haben auf die Polizei die Flaschen geworfen. Also man kann nicht sagen, dass das Rechtsradikale waren, waren echt Bürger, alle Schichten.
Die Polizeidirektion Westsachsen bestätigt heute diese Darstellung.
O-Ton Ilka Peter, Polizeidirektion Westsachsen: Dann beginnt die Straßenschlacht, also dieses Werfen von Bierflaschen, Biergläsern und Biertischgarnituren auf die Polizeibeamten, die sich dann natürlich gewehrt haben.
O-Ton Frontal21: War das ne Straßenschlacht?
O-Ton Ilka Peter, Polizeidirektion Westsachsen: Straßenschlacht, ja ich kenne andere Straßenschlachten – es war schon haarig.
Mügeln: knapp 5000 Einwohner. Nicht viel los in dieser Kleinstadt zwischen Aufbau und Abriss Ost. Viele fühlen sich „von denen da oben“ Im Stich gelassen. Frustration und Staatsverdrossenheit.
Landesvater Milbradt kommt vorbei, will sich informieren.
Schulterklopfen für den Bürgermeister. Der ist seit 17 Jahren im Amt, versteht seine Bürger nicht mehr. Wir sind doch keine rechtsextreme Stadt, wiegelt er ab.
O-Ton Gotthard Deuse, FDP, Bürgermeister Mügeln: Ich sage einfach auch, dass diese Sache, die dann eskaliert ist, eine spontane Sache gewesen ist und ich denke auch, da niemandem nahe zu treten, bei Volksfesten passiert das immer mal. Wenn die Inder nicht da gewesen wären, hätte -ja können genauso Reibereien zwischen Deutschen sein, denn das passiert ja immer mal.
(Journalist:) Alles normal also? Ein Jugendlicher widerspricht, berichtet von Gewalt und Ausländerhass. Auch er hat Angst, will nicht vor die Kamera -wie die meisten hier.
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Das ist keine Leben mehr hier, ne ne.
O-Ton Frontal21: Wieso nicht?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Also ich sag mal, das ist viel zu riskant, hier zu leben. Weil mittlerweile, wenn ich manchmal -ich bin manchmal von ´ner Geburtstagsfete gekommen in der Nacht um zwei, um drei rum, da wurdest du dumm angemacht auf dem Markt. Also das gibt’s nicht.
O-Ton Frontal21: Von Rechten?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Ja – so Leute gibt’s immer…
O-Ton Frontal21: Steckt da ’ne richtig rechte Ideologie dahinter?
O-Ton Jugendlicher: Ja, ich würde eher denken: Wir sind rechts, und Ausländerhass. Die Ausländer schnappen uns die Arbeit weg, so ungefähr. Wir Deutschen gehen für – sag ich mal-’nen Hungerbrotlohn arbeiten und die Ausländer kriegen das Geld – sag ich mal -von hinten bis vorne.
(Journalist:) Es gab Warnungen. Der Jugendclub sollte am Wochenende angegriffen werden. Das berichten Mitarbeiter des Clubs, und auch die wollen anonym bleiben. Sie seien vor zwei Wochen beim Polizeiposten gegenüber gewesen und hätten um Rat gefragt und auch einen bekommen. Zumachen! Und so blieb das.
(Journalist:) Jugendzentrum geschlossen. Die Drohung wirkt. Bei der Ausländerberatung in Döbeln registriert man mehr und mehr Überfälle.
O-Ton Torsten Fischäder, Netzwerk Döbeln: ‚Wenn allein in diesem Jahr schon sieben oder acht schwerere Vorfälle bei uns im Landkreis waren, ist das mit Sicherheit in den angrenzenden Landkreisen nicht viel anders. Und das dokumentiert ganz gut, dass auf jeden Fall die Gefahr, die von rechts ausgeht, nicht weniger geworden ist’.“
