No thoughts?

Lots of you have come here via Louie Crew’s web page, I notice (at least 50). But no one has left any comments…. =-(

So drop a line, let me know what you think, start a conversation. This is an interactive medium (although it’s my space, so play nicely), and I want to interact.

Drama continues

Well, I wrote my parents back today, and I told them that we won’t come to a meeting point about different readings of the Bible. But more important than that, I told them that what I found in being out and in a church that accepts that is that I have lived the experience and learned some of the lessons of love. “…God loves and is in everything. Since I have joined my piece of the Church, I have found that….I have a walk of faith, rather than a rote of rules and procedures.”

Now we’ll see what’s up when they respond.

On another note, my roommate just received word from his girlfriend of ten years that she wants to break up. She lives in Colorado, while he’s here. She told him via a text message on his cell phone. She isn’t responding right now. He has to get up for work in four hours.

Whoa.

I wish I knew what to do or say.

Avoiding

I have been avoiding this forum because I don’t want to introspect. I might have to confront my current demons if I thought out loud here.

Not that anyone seems to be out there hurriedly awaiting news from Nathanland.

Back, but with Jet Lag

I love the random capitalization in that headline. Who knows why Jet Lag is capitalized?

I am still jet lagged from California, as I got up about an hour ago. I set the alarm for three hours earlier, but couldn’t even begin to pull myself from the bed. So I kept sleeping. At some point, this will have to end, but I’m not sure when.

Quick summary of things to get done today. I need to get a new tire and tube for my bike. Then, repair. I need to go to the gym, ergo, the need for the bike, so that I can get there more quickly. Need to drop into the library and grab a couple of books on disease and global public health. Then, I’m going to Eucharist and dinner at the monastery this evening.

I was going to go to the boathouse today to try to get them to teach me to scull, but that’s a far-fetched possibility when you get up at around 11 AM.

My new roommate is pretty cool. He works for a bookstore, and he understands the addiction.

Haven’t heard from my parents in three weeks. Don’t particularly want to hear from them right now.

I’ll try to be less disjointed in the next post.

Busy, busy, busy

Well, I am in California now, specifically LA (cue the Rufus Wainwright songs…).  We’ve been in state for about five days now, and we’ve seen bunches of friends, and done a little sightseeing.  Much of the drive down to LA yesterday was consumed with Highway 101 and the California Missions.  I hung out with my friends Janette, Saranya, and Susie, and BF spent the night with his brother.  We’re going to see the Getty Museum today, and maybe the cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

More thoughts and photos on the missions later.

Whew!

First the flu, and then emotional drama.

I had a fever over 101 for a couple of days, which is guaranteed to wipe you out, as I relearned. I still get tired pretty quickly, even though I feel fine otherwise.

Then I had family drama. My parents have decided that they won’t allow me to bring a boyfriend home, because they don’t approve. So I won’t be seeing them while I’m in California. Which is a situation that I have spent two days analyzing offline, so I can’t muster the energy to do it right now. But it is, in the end, their loss of me. And I’m spared the emotional drama of having to see them with BF in tow.

Have to go off and teach now.

Oh, yeah, BTW, it seems like the free wireless connection in my neighborhood is not allowing me to send mail from my Harvard account now. It seems not to like the Harvard SMTP server. So now e-mail is something more of a pain than it used to be.

Bob Newhart jumped out from behind a tree!

BF and I went to a Vermont B&B for the weekend. It’s not like we really had the money, espcially since we have to go to California in 2 weeks, but we both wanted a break from the semester, so we thought we’d treat ourselves.

To me, it was the stunning diplay of New England cliche. It was all very pleasant, but the towns were like something out of a movie, with little churches and shops and the like.

We stayed a a gay-run B&B in Chester, Vermont, called the The Stone Hearth Inn. We drove up on Saturday, ate a nice little meal, checked in, read books and drank. Sunday we went to church (at St. Luke’s), drove a lot, saw more little towns, including Woodstock. There we saw the Stephen Huneck gallery, full of dog-themed furniture and art. Hilarious.

Monday, we left, but not before stopping at the bookstore. Lovely, and I bought a book, for me and also to make sure the place stays in business. Good bookstores in smal towns need to get support. We spoke with Lynn, the proprietress, for about 30 minutes, and she even gave me a book for free, as long as I promised to send her a review for display in the store.

Larry, Daryll, and Daryll were not available for comment.

Lazy Day

It’s cold here today.  Low 50s.  And it’s mid-May.

Nothing I want to report for the time being.  Went to one of my professor‘s houses today for his end-of-term barbecue.  Nice area of Brookline, and actual BBQ food (ribs, beans, pie, beer, etc.)  Ate a little too much, but since I don’t often eat ribs, I don’t think I’m gonna obsess.

Not much else I want to talk about now.  Like eveyone else, I found the new Matrix film unexciting….

Friday off? No….

It’s one of those lazy Friday mornings where it’d be nice to just sit around and do nothing.  But I have a big paper due in a week, so I suppose that it’s time to get in gear, go to the coffee shop, and get the reading done.

And I’ve tried to procrastinate already.  No one’s around.  Boyfriend is busy, internet friends are not around right now, West Coast friends are just getting up.
