iPod Touch – Wireless Sync?

6

Steve Jobs introduced the iPod Touch last week to a crowd of Apple faithful. Similar to the launch of the iPhone, the crowd went wild. The new iPod looks like an iPhone, with the same screen, twice the storage, and most importantly… WiFi.

However, it appears that the iPod Touch is lacking perhaps the most useful feature: wireless syncing with your iTunes library over WiFi. Sure, the new iPod can connect directly to iTunes Music Store, but why not have it capable of connecting with your Mac/PC to sync your existing collection? This would solve the constant hassle of using a USB cable to sync playlists and podcasts. The way it seems, the WiFi technology is now built in, and should be used for this very useful purpose.

On a similar note, why not allow the iPod Touch to broadcast music directly to AppleTV / AirTunes? It will be interesting to see these features develop. Hopefully, this will be possible in the future with a simple software update.

    Update 11/14: I’ve been using the iPod touch for a few weeks, and the wi-fi is really a drain on battery life. This, along with the processing speed necessary is probably preventing Apple from implementing wireless sync and AirTunes integration.

    Why not enable it if it is powered? I’ve got a dock in my bedroom and it would be great if while it charged there it would also sync.

    The iPod Touch (stylized and marketed as iPod touch and colloquially known as iTouch) is a portable music and video player, handheld game console, and email-capable personal digital assistant, designed and marketed by Apple Inc.[10] It is not a smartphone, though its design and operating system closely resemble Apple’s iPhone.;;”..

    Prior to iOS 5, the iPod branding was used for the media player included with the iPhone and iPad, a combination of the Music and Videos apps on the iPod Touch. As of iOS 5, separate apps named “Music” and “Video” are standardized across all iOS-powered products. While the iPhone and iPad have essentially the same media-player capabilities as the iPod line, they are generally treated as separate products. In the last few years, iPhone and iPad sales have overtaken those of the iPod.*-`;
