Update on who’s running

Alright, so the DCCC website doesn’t list Cynthia, but does list someone named Hoyt Hillsman. Is this person running? Doubtful.

I think I’ve found the definitive answer on who’s actually running, from opensecrets.org:

David Dreier (R) *
Russell Warner (D)
S. Sonny Sardo (R)
Cynthia Matthews (D)
Melvin C. (Mel) Milton (R)
Elliot Graham (3)
Hoyt Hillsman (D)
Ted Brown (L)
$1,182,039
$169,825
$29,002
$516
$0
$0
$0
$0

In 2004, Cynthia Matthews raised $55,000, so already Russ Warner has tripled that. Dreier has already raised about the same as in 2004.

Finally, that page says the primary is Tuesday, June 6, 2006. And I’m going to be in Claremont by then. Cool!

  1. If you are going to be in CA June 6 come by campaign headquarters for Russ Warner in Rancho Cucamonga, 10064 Foothill Boulevard, between Haven and Archibald. We can use all the help we can get.

  2. […] To be fair, few incumbents in California (and around the country) bothered to fill out the NPAT, but Russ Warner filled out his as did Republican Melvin C. (Mel) Milton, who hasn’t raised any money but is convinced that the “gargantuan flow of illegal aliens and drugs from Mexico to the United States is tantamount to war”. […]

  3. […] Meanwhile, Cynthia Rodriguez Matthews, who came out of the closet during the 2004 election and challenged Dreier to do the same ran again. Matthews gave Dreier the closest margin of any reelected congressman in California in 2004 (54-42), thanks in no small part to the anti-Dreier activism of two radio hosts surrounding immigration. Yet Matthews had raised only $516 as of mid-May and $5,361 as of June 1. Her website is a nightmare. Watching the election from afar, I pretty much wrote her off. […]

  4. Was that before or after she won the primary for a second time in a row that you ‘pretty much wrote her off’, Seth in CA?

  5. Either this is sarcasm (and I’m missing it) or you’re confused about the (admittedly weird) way that WordPress does pingbacks. The comment above was posted automatically from the story it links to, which was my attempt at an election post-mortem. In that post, I didn’t write much about Matthews because I didn’t know much, other than from her awful website. I was really just interested in why Warner lost. Since then, I’ve tried to learn more and even engage the netroots, but that’s been mostly a bust…
