Another (here’s the last one) ancient civs update from fair Harvard: deciphering Inca khipu.  Harvard anthro is wicked cool.  I don’t want to wait for a book to come out with details, I want to track Urton down…

Awesome article! I wonder about the effectiveness of such a written language… I mean, it seems difficult to quickly glean the meaning from such a complex system (having to take in the position/color/weave/etc all at once). Though I suppose someone doing it since their youth might get accostumed. Hard for me to imagine, though.
