the colors that bind

I see ties when my mind takes an artistic trip — at that special part of the evening when wakefulness and sleepiness mix in the subconscious.  dark ties will dazzling lightning bolts surrounded by deep colors, lined patterns with curved subpatterns, overlays of matte and glistening and proudly woven textures, knitted together with precision.  wide and narrow, silk and wool and cotton, devoutly flat and lush with extra hand.

when I pass by a tie store with its meager wares, I spend a few minutes considering the rapacity of projecting dream into reality.

I have never seen a great tie with my waking eye.  Where do the visions come from?
