A Poisonous Bush in my Back Yard

No, it’s not a Rhododendron. The genus and and species of shrub I’m talking about is of the G.W. Bush persuasion.

How disturbed I was watching the news yesterday when they announced that George W. Bush will be spending at least part of his summer vacation on Cape Cod. That news alone was enough to pull my attention away from Dusty (the Devil Dog: Hound from Hell). But I practically choked on my oatmeal when they added that he was going to be spending it in the same village I was raised in (Osterville). EEK!

I just don’t get it. Massachusetts is perhaps the most anti-Bush place on earth (after France, Germany and Iraq). Well, that may not be true…but at least in the United States, Massachusetts is known as being too liberal leaning and too “out of touch” with the rest of the country. So I’m quite perplexed as to why he’s coming here of all places – aren’t there oil-polluted beaches in his home state of Texas that he could enjoy instead?

I suppose, though, that it would make sense for him to be going to Osterville. It is the richest community on Cape Cod. The most expensive house sold in Massachusetts history (at $26 million+) was just down the sreet from my humble childhood home (of 3 beds, one bath and an 1/8 acre of land). I mean, a good chunk of Osterville’s land is either part of a gated island community (Oyster Harbors) or part of the Wianno Golf and Yacht Club. I guess with that much wealth, he’s bound to fit in.

Which brings me to a few anti-Kerry ads I’ve seen on TV lately. Have you seen them? They mimic the Mastercard ads by talking about John Kerry’s expensive haircut, his name-brand clothes, and his mansion in Boston. Then the ad ends by saying it’s “Priceless.” They’re basically saying that that Kerry is out-of-touch with the American working class. Yet, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t GW Bush a millionaire, too? Doesn’t he own a compound in Texas? Didn’t he own a sports team? Didn’t he own oil fields? Doesn’t his family own an enormous oceanfront estate in Kennebunkport, Maine? Why is Kerry’s wealth so bad and Bush’s wealth so good?

Anyway, I’m hoping that his driver forgets to turn down the road to Osterville and ends up continuing on down to Provincetown! Let’s see how he fits in there!

Yeah, that’s why we need another alternative. There’s no real difference between the democrats and republicans these days if you ask me. I’m voting Kucinich.

Karl — They are all the same whether a liberal demo or republican. None of them are
in touch with the average joe, they live in
there own world, fed what certain ones want
them to heard. If they aren’t rich before
office they will be when leave. None are
truely interested in anything but themselves.
Don’t think that Kerry will be any different
if not worst. He managed to hump a ketchup
bottle than fell into the pie.

I agree 100% with what you both are saying. However, I think we’re left with voting for the lesser of two evils. And personally, since it’s obviously going to be a race between Kerry and Bush, I think Kerry is the lesser evil.

And, based on how close the last election was, I STRONGLY would discourage you from voting for Kucinich – since any vote for him or Nader would take one away from Kerry. I mean, let’s be honest – no matter how qualified they are, there’s no way that Nader or Kucinich could win.
