My Time of Year

I’m sure a number of my fellow New Englanders are grumbling about the cool temperatures this morning – but I love it! This is exactly the kind of weather I like. It’s beautiful! Bright and sunny skies and temperatures that warrant a light jacket or sweater. I can walk briskly and not work up a sweat. I’m eager to see the leaves begin falling and to smell the fireplaces. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So I watched the vice-presidential debates last night. Unlike the presidential debate last week, I couldn’t see a clear winner. Cheney just always seems grumpy to me. And Edwards started off the debate with a creepy forced smile as his name was announced. One good thing about the debate was that it felt less scripted than the presidential debate. These guys were more critical (which is a good thing). I was still annoyed at times, for example, when Cheney was asked about the rapidly increasing rate of AIDS and African-American woman. The moderator told him NOT to discuss AIDS in Africa but to focus on it in our own country. He then responded with nearly 2.5 minutes worth of world-wide AIDS talk. Then Edwards’ rebuttal was similar. Why are they allowed to skirt the answer? If we did that (in school, under interrogation by police, etc…) we’d get in trouble. I wish the moderator could reprimand them and demand a real answer.

One telling moment for me, though, was when the issue of gay marriage came up. Cheney gave his opinion, then Edwards acknowledged admiration for Cheney’s acceptance of his lesbian daughter and then stated his opinion. When Cheney was provided a 30 second rebuttal – all he did was thank Edwards for the compliment about his daughter. It seemed apparent that this is one issue in which he disagrees whole-heartedly with Bush – but can’t risk saying too much.

On a different note, Dusty slept with us last night. We felt bad that she was alone so long yesterday (I had class and Matt worked late). This was the first time we allowed it to happen. I’m not sure it will be a regular thing. I fear I’ll crush her when rolling over. Besides, I don’t want to wake up to find her rimming me (once again, see Matt’s posting from yesterday if you haven’t read it yet).

Enough with the puppy rimming. Jezzzzzzzzzzz.
Anyway, Cheney looked like Jabba the Hut.
All he needed was one of the Bush twins chained to him in the costume Carrie Fisher wore.

Sasha sleeps with us from about 4 until we get up at 6. We’re getting a queen size bed so she can sleep the whole night and not worry about crushing her. She snored last night – how ridiculously cute.
