Some Sketchy Activity on the Subway

This morning it was drizzling so I took the subway into Harvard Square (instead of walking as I normally do). The train wasn’t too crowded but all the seats were taken. I stood by doors (knowing that I was getting off at the next stop and wouldn’t be blocking the flow of traffic).

As you probably know, I openly admit to being a voyeur. So, as I always do, I scoped out my surroundings on the train. As I glanced to my left I noticed a women (early 20’s…probably college student) looking at me. I did my normal smile/grimace of acknowledgment and continued looking around. After staring at the floor for a few seconds, I looked up in her direction and realized she was looking at me again – then she quickly looked down and started writing in a notepad. This happened a few more times.

Finally, it was my stop and I turned to exit. As I looked back into the window of the train I could see that she was sketching me on a sketch pad. I wasn’t able to see how it came out (actually, I couldn’t see much except that it wasn’t text but a drawing). I don’t know whether to be flattered or offended – I guess I’d have to see the sketch to find out.

It also figures that I look like shit today, too. This sounds like hyperbole, but I can honestly say that last night was the worst night of my life. I’m not going to go into detail here, but it involved some serious talking and excessive tears (which don’t come easy for me). I’m feeling better this morning, but I couldn’t be bothered wearing contact lenses, my throat hurts, my nose is running, I’m exhausted, and it’s drizzly and cloudy outside.

Happy Friday, everybody!

    Channeling Ms. Labelle:
    It’s only me
    I’ve come to see you
    And I know
    What you have been through
    I will be your friend
    Lean on me for now
But to pull you back up
    Somehow

I’ll have no more of this moping around
I’m tired of you putting yourself down
But in spite of all you’ve been through
    I still believe
    There’s a winner in you
    Sometimes you can see it
From the tip of your mind
And can’t focus at all times
If the wind touch you to another
    Before you discover

    There’s a winner
    There’s a hero
    There’s a lover too
    Somewhere
    There’s a winner in you

I’ll have no more of this moping around
I’m tired of you putting yourself down
But in spite of all you’ve been through
    I still believe
    There’s a winner in you

    There’s a winner
    There’s a hero
    There’s a lover too
    Somewhere
    There’s a winner in you

    There’s a winner
    There’s a hero
    There’s a lover too
    Somewhere
    There’s a winner in you
