Mad Karl Disease

I had a friend in kindergarten who, because of a speech impediment, was unable to say my name. It always came out  as “cow”. The recent talk of mad cow disease resurfacing in the United States reminded me of him. Last I heard, this childhood friend still lived in Osterville (my father ran into him at a hardware store).

Anyway, the Mad Cow news footage last night showed the identical footage they were showing 3 or 4 years ago when the first Mad Cow scare was taking place. I recall the piece vividly because it showed a cow that kept collapsing because it was unable to stand. I felt horribly for the animal. I know it’s hypocritical because I wear leather and eat fish and poulty (though I gave up red meat 4 years ago). But I hate seeing animals or people suffer – especially when they can’t comprehend what’s going on.

Oh, and speaking of mad cows, Celine Dion has a new CD out called “Miracle”. Apparently, the music is dedicated to, and inspired by, the celebration of children (barf). It’s so shmaltzy that Q Magazine finished their review of it by referring to the CD as “aural birth control”. I LOVE IT!
